Foreign Affairs Minister Sven Mikser: European Union development cooperation must keep in step with digital development

Today, 11 September, an informal meeting of EU development ministers took place in Tallinn. The informal meeting was chaired by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini. In Estonia, the development minister role was held by Foreign Minister Sven Mikser.

At the meeting, Foreign Minister Sven Mikser highlighted the fact that digital progress is taking place everywhere in the world and that the EU should therefore devote more attention to the digital sphere in development cooperation policy. “We must engage in development cooperation that is future-oriented, and be aware of the added value that digital technologies and solutions can provide for the development of countries,” said Minister Mikser in his remarks.

At the meeting, the ministers also discussed resilience in different countries and integrating humanitarian aid and development cooperation; and at a dinner tonight, the ministers will discuss the EU’s foreign investment plan.
